April 5, 2005 - It's interesting to watch the mainstream media politicize Pope John Paul II's death by constantly reminding us that he was opposed to the Iraq War; as if any Pope ever advocated any war. Now I know that the Catholic Church may not be as holy as perceived and maybe a Pope or two (maybe during the Crusades?) did support the equivalent of the use military force. It appears that the media wants to spin this in a manner to emit the perception that "George W. Bush is always wrong, even the Pope says so." The media should remind us, then, that John Paul II was also against abortion and gay marriage. We can also make a wild assumption that the late Pope was also against people flying airplanes into skyscrapers and kids strapping bomb belts on and running into a crowd of people.

Snipers will be posted during the funeral. A sniper is a person who is trained to kill an aggressor. Sometimes it is necessary to fight fire with fire. If a threat emerges, the threat must be dealt with. While it's unlikely any person of strong religious conviction would approve of this, privately, he may see this as necessary in order to protect lives of the innocent.
