May 5, 2006 - Anyone who has any doubts about which way the media leans should look at
the scant coverage Patrick Kennedy is getting in the news. He was involved in a car accident. Here is his account (from Reuters via Netscape news):
"Some time around 2:45 a.m., I drove a few blocks to the Capitol complex believing I needed to vote. Apparently I was disoriented from the medication. At that time I was involved in a one-car incident in which my car hit the security barrier at the corner of 1st and C Sts. SW."
Who in his right mind would be driving around at 2:45 am especially if he was on medication that causes
drowsiness or disorientation? No fear, Pat, you'll get a free pass.
About a year ago a less prominent Congressman from Pennsylvania blasted Bush and the policy in Iraq. He immediately became a celebrity. However, when the son a prominent Congressman (and Congressman himself) is involved in an accident at 2:45 am, he gets a token mention by the MSM. The message is simple: blast Bush and you'll get all the air time you want to prattle on but if you're a Democrat (being a Kennedy is a plus) are involved in a suspicious event, we'll give it casual mention and hope no one asks any questions.
Had this been a Republican Congressman, he'd be assumed guilty of driving drunk by the media immediately; akin to how the VP's hunting accident was treated.
