Saturday

Saturday is here. I noticed the other day that it's about time to cut the grass. I started the mower a few weeks ago to get the winter coldness out of the motor. This year, in addition to the obligatory yardwork, I have some external painting to do. I am going to need to rent some kind of scaffolding to reach some areas. But, all that sure beats shoveling snow and being confined to the indoors. Ok, so this is a lame post today but it's better than nothing. I am supposed to have another letter to the editor published in the Morning Call in the next few days. The letter will be posted on the commentary and opinion section of my site.

The news of the past several days has been preoccupied with the election of the new Pope. However, of a more important nature in my opinion is what has been going on along the border between Arizona and Mexico. A new vigilante group known as the "Minutemen" has suddenly gained national prominence in their efforts to halt the tide of illegal immigrants pouring into this country. Naturally the ACLU is jumping on this as is their usual wont in taking the wrong side of any issue. This is to be expected. But regardless of which side of the legal issue one cares to align oneself with, the glaring problem here is the very fact that such an organization has been formed in the first place. The American people are simply fed up with Washington's inability to cope with this mess, so they are taking matters into their own hands in a scenario right out of the old West. This is setting a dangerous precedence. This administration can no longer continue to turn its back on this problem, and the continued inability of the Bush camp to address this issue is one that simply defies logic. Bush was given a pass on 9/11, only because there was enough evidence to put a good deal of the blame on faulty intelligence in the Clinton administration. However there can be no excuses for the continued shrugging of shoulders or the collective yawn that is coming from inside the Beltway today. The continued failure to address the problem of our porous borders and who or what may be coming into our country illegally, especially in view of what happened on 9/11 is simply unconscionable! Let's face it; we're seeing politics at its very worse here! This administration is abrogating its obligations to the American citizens for a simple political agenda: fear of alienating the Hispanic vote! I am going on record right now that in the event of another catastrophic event like 9/11, and should such an event be traced back to the lack of security along our borders, the blood of the Americans killed in any such tragedy will be placed squarely in the hands of G.W. Bush and his administration. America....wake up, before we get another "wake up" call!!!
