More Gas II
Well, some news reports say that gas has reached its low point and prices will begin to rise again. This means we will now see news stories again about the price of gasoline. When the price of gas plummeted 50 cents a gallon last month, the news coverage was scant, at best, and no one seemed to benefit from the price drop. Look for reports on how Bush ordered the big oil companies to raise prices again and how Bush doesn't care about people. It's Bush's fault that some people don't have an unlimited amount of money to cover all their personal expenses. Heaven forbid that people take 15 minutes and sit down with a pencil and paper and write down their income and expenses and draw a budget accordingly.

It's too bad Bush didn't take this opportunity to gather support for research into ways of making alternative energy sources cheaper. We all knew that this country was too dependent on oil (even our own, let alone from foreign countries) and Katrina exposed this problem in a way that I have never seen, at least in my driving/gas-buying lifetime
(1986+). (I am giving the oil companies, etc. the benefit of the doubt and assuming that refinery shutdowns, market forces, etc. were the drivers behind the price increases and not just corporate opportunism) He certainly has the stage to drum up support for this idea, and it would have been almost universally supported by Americans. At least, it would be hard to accuse him of not caring about the people if he could help put some momentum into movements to make it cheaper to drive in this country.
