In the Merry Month of May
...there are blizzard warnings:

...for NW Kansas.

May blizzard shuts down parts of S.D.

Blizzard warning for NE Colorado.

lol

I had to write a <a href="http://eabcaecbbceacbae.blogspot.com/2008/05/lol-dis.html">response on my blog</a>

Cursed bbcode.

Not bad, but I didn't imply "suggesting that global warming doesn't exist because some places are unseasonably cold" in this post. I just linked to some weather-related news.

I would prefer to think of myself a skeptic, rather than being innumerate. I know what the numbers tell us now but that doesn't mean we are always right and Philosophy 101 teaches us that just because something is true and has always been true, doesn't mean it's going to be true tomorrow. Of course, probability may dictate that something is very likely to occur or not occur, but probability does not guarantee certainty.

Good post, though, despite the insults. lol

The subtext seemed to be: "*cough cough* Global warming doesn't exist because it's cold somewhere in the world!"

Speaking of skeptics

I trust that the laws governing the retention of heat due to trace gases in the atmosphere will still hold up tomorrow.

Of course, probability may dictate that something is very likely to occur or not occur, but probability does not guarantee certainty.

Yeah but the expected value is more often than not the received one.

Of course, the laws will still hold true tomorrow, but that doesn't mean whatever the law defines will happen. Just because a pot of water boils at 100C doesn't mean the water in that pot will ever boil. The existence of the law doesn't say that something must happen. It only says what will likely happen when certain conditions are met.

I don't know if you're keeping up on current events, but we're releasing a lot of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. One way for the Earth to retain more heat is to have more CO2 and methane in the air. Fill in the blanks:

"Andrew put a pot of water on the hot burner turned to 100 Centigrade at sea level. The water ___________."

"Julie released a lot of heat-retaining gases into the atmosphere through various industries. The temperature of the Earth ___________."

Sorry, I don't have time to do your homework for you. Please don't post it here.

...and before you chime in, the previous comment was supposed to be funny.

Good luck on your exams.

Any time I have important tests like finals, I usually listen to a lot of thrash metal to get myself psyched for the challenge
